Artemide-Pierce-Pendant

The Pirce pendant light from Artemide is a show-stopper. Created from a laser cut, irregular shaped aluminum disc it opens up into a gently cascading spiral, creating the light and airy look of an illuminated mobile floating in space.
A bulb in the lower dish of the light casts light upwards to give indirect illumination.

On a recent trip to Bern, Switzerland I saw the incredible floor lamp, Cosmic Leaf by Artemide for the first time “in the flesh”. What a beauty!!!
It is one of these lights, where you just have to step closer and even reach out and touch, because it seems unreal.  The fluid form of Cosmic Leaf  is illuminated from a light source in the base that brushes over the meshed skin and makes it glow with an ethereal light.

Ettore Sottsass created the Callimaco floor lamp for Artemide in 1982.
It stayed part of the Artemide collection for many years then disappeared for a decade or two.
Now Artemide we are excited to see the Callimoco return from retirement.

This striking tall floor torchiere has a simple, straightforward geometric shape—the base matches the top for its cone-shaped silhouette. The two components are joined by a cylindrical aluminum shaft in bright gold. The diffuser is of stainless steel painted lipstick red, and the base sports a contrasting pewter gray.

Pirce Pendant from Artemide

The Pirce suspension lamp from Artemide is a fantastic sculptural light.
Its graceful form resembles a floating mobile.
On my recent trip to Bern, Switzerland I visited my favorite lighting store: Teo Jakob. Here I had the opportunity to take photos of some great lights.
The Pirce is just so special.  I definitely want one for our new showroom!

Artemide SoffioneThe Soffione from Artemide is a true gem!
The shape of the diffuser  is similar to the geometric structure of crystals. The polished silk finish of the glass adds to the special luminescence of this tabletop lamp.

New from Artemide: Aqua Sil

Artemide Aqua Sil Table Lamp

Artemide Aqua Sil Table Lamp

It’s obvious where Ross Lovegrove got his inspiration for the unique Aqua Sil series of lamps and ceiling lights he designed for Artemide.
Resembling ripples of water on a quiet lake  the highly reflective surface seems to react to the colors of the surroundings, picking up hues of colors around it.

The Aqua Sil table lamp is more than just a workhorse. It’s a work of art, a piece to fall in love with.

“Lovegrove’s specialty is in qualifying the present moment in design, rather than restyling the past, by employing new technologies with new materials to define new shapes.”

The Tolomeo Classic Desk Lamp

Have you ever leafed through a magazine of sophisticated contemporary homes without running across at least 10 Tolomeo lamps? On night stands, on desks, next to a favorite reading chair.
Alan Shore had one on his desk in Boston Legal, the department stores have oodles of them on their highest end cosmetics counters – and I have mine right here next to me. I love my Tolomeo. In my humble opinion there is no better reading light and I can’t even explain why. It holds a simple 75W household bulb, nothing fancy or unusual. The shade somehow focuses the light just right. I like it that I can move the arm and head in all directions to get the light just right for working on my laptop or reading.

In our showroom we have our favorites and the Tolomeo from Artemide always ranks towards the top of our list, not just because I like it so much.
Our criteria at Form + Function for falling in love with a product includes a lot more than just good design. Since we sell the products we want our customers to be happy with them not just today, but down the road.

One huge bonus with the Tolomeo is that there are replacement parts for everything and the assembly doesn’t require an engineer. When my two rambunctious dogs chased around the living room on a silly romp and knocked over our Tolomeo floor lamp it broke at the base. It looked like a major deal, a ruined lamp, but no. All that was required was a small part that was easily available from Artemide.

Knowing about this made us genuinely fall in love with the Tolomeo and we have helped many customers with parts and bits. That to me is a great, functional lamp, worth paying a bit extra for, since I know I’ll have it practically forever.
