Fashion world icon Issey Miyake has now expanded the idea behind his signature origami inspired clothing design 132 5. to lighting.

OK,  For a while I have been drooling over the incredible origami inspired garments by Issey Miyake. The entire design concept, the looks, the creativity, the idea behind them are all just so intriguing.
Then he translates the exact same concept to lighting, introduces the IN-EI collection – and I am on cloud nine.
What can be better than this intricate play of light and shadows, the unique shapes of these light creations, the sustainability of the materials, the LED light source, the functionality of the fixtures and a price that is still well within reach?

The Mendori light is part of the IN-EI collection designed by Issey Miyake and his Reality Lab. It was co-developed and manufactured in Italy by Artemide.

These striking, poetic light sculptures are created using a mathematical program and origami techniques  diffusing light in intriguing ways. The material is a a re-treated fiber made from recycled PET bottles.
Miyake’s unique folding technology creates both statuesque forms as well as sufficient solidity. The structure of the recycled material, together with an additional surface treatment allows these shades to perfectly keep their shape without the need for internal frame, and to be re-shaped when needed. They can be easily stored flat when not in use.
